Corporate Social Responsibility: sustainability comes first

Corporate Social Responsibility:
sustainability first and foremost

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability are important to Intertaste; in fact, one of Intertaste’s core values is “the long-term perspective” which basically means that CSR is an integral part of Intertaste’s makeup. For Intertaste, CSR means doing what we as a company do best, including making sure that all our company decisions do not only reflect the financial aspects, but also give ample consideration to the effects on our own employees and society, and to the impact on the environment. We are always prepared to enter a dialogue with anyone who is interested and other concerned parties.

At Intertaste, we have formulated a CSR policy that rests on three pillars: social responsibilities, environmental responsibilities and a sustainable supply chain. As we want to be able to really contribute something towards a sustainable world, we are focusing on a number of important themes:

Social responsibilities
Social responsibility at Intertaste means that we can guarantee the food safety of the goods we have manufactured, confirmed by the fact that all our sites now have FSSC 22000 certification. Intertaste and our clients make an effort to produce healthier products, by working on matters such as salt reduction, the design of products containing unsaturated fats and gluten-free products. A safe working environment for our employees has the highest priority in our production processes, and in addition, we work closely with a sheltered workshop, another aspect of our social responsibility.

Environmental responsibilities
Intertaste’s environmental responsibilities are expressed in the fact that Intertaste assumes responsibility as a manufacturer to reduce the detrimental impact of its production operations on the environment to a minimum. We have formulated targets to use power and water more efficiently and to reduce the waste.

Sustainable supply chain
A sustainable supply chain means that when Intertaste purchases raw materials and semi-finished products, it shoulders its responsibilities: we do not only consider current demands, but we also take into account the fact that future generations will need to fulfil their needs too. We are actively involved in making the trade chain more sustainable and in fact, Intertaste is one of the founding members of the Sustainable Spices Initiative (SSI)  set up by the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) which is striving to increase the import of sustainable spice into Europe throughout the industry.

Moreover, Intertaste recently became a partner in the national knowledge centre CRS Netherlands (MVO Nederland)!
